WAEC Puts to Rest Rumors About Cancellation of 2025 English Language Exam
The Nigerian branch of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stepped forward to squash the circulating gossip claiming that the English Language exam held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as part of the ongoing WASSCE for School Candidates, was cancelled and that a new date would be announced soon.
In an official statement released by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Nigeria, on Tuesday, June 2, the council clarified that the so-called press release making the rounds on social media was not issued by them. They emphasized that the exam in question was not cancelled.
The statement explained that the fake press release, dated Friday, May 30, 2025, falsely claimed the cancellation of the English Language paper and hinted at a rescheduled exam date. WAEC’s management firmly denied this, attributing the misinformation to troublemakers aiming to tarnish the council’s reputation and stir confusion and anxiety among candidates who took the test.
WAEC reminded the public and all stakeholders that official information from the council is only shared through their verified social media accounts and trusted media outlets nationwide. All genuine press releases are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
The council expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their trust over the past seventy-three years of conducting examinations and reaffirmed their commitment to continuously improve the quality of service provided to Nigerian students.
