Victony Shares How a Car Crash Won Over His Parents’ Support for His Music
Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, known to fans as Victony, has opened up about how a life-changing car accident shifted his parents’ stance on his music career.
Back in April 2021, the ‘Soweto’ hitmaker was involved in a devastating accident that claimed one life and left three others injured. Initially, Victony’s parents were hesitant about his musical ambitions, hoping he would complete his education and pursue engineering instead.
Speaking on the Behind The Prestige podcast, Victony explained, “My parents weren’t exactly thrilled about me going into music from the start. They never told me to quit, but they weren’t fully on board either. Their dream was for me to finish school and become an engineer.”
However, everything changed after the accident. “When the crash happened in 2021 and they saw the outpouring of support from fans—people on social media posting ‘pray for Victony’—they finally understood how much music meant to me. That’s when they gave me their blessing to follow my passion.”
Victony rose to fame a few years ago, notably collaborating with Mayorkun on the hit track ‘Holy Father.’ He is currently signed to Mainland Block Party, a label founded by Nigerian music executive Tobi Mohammed.
In 2023, Victony described the accident as a ‘blessing in disguise’ and shared that he has undergone four surgeries since the incident, highlighting the physical and emotional challenges he has faced along the way.
His story is a testament to resilience and how unexpected events can bring clarity and support where it was once lacking.
