A joyful celebration turned heartbreaking in Unguwar Liman, Magama Jibia, Katsina State, when a stray bullet ended the life of a young boy during a wedding event. The air was supposed to be filled with happiness, but instead, it echoed with tragedy.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, the wedding fatiha of a member of the Nigerian Hunter Group took a dark turn. Adamu Idris, aged 45, fired a locally made rifle into the air to mark the occasion, but the bullet went astray, fatally wounding 10-year-old Malam Yusuf in the abdomen. A 25-year-old woman, Shamsiyya Salisu, also suffered a gunshot injury to her waist.

Both victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Jibia. Unfortunately, Yusuf succumbed to his injuries, while Salisu continues to receive medical care. Authorities swiftly arrested Idris, recovering the homemade firearm along with one live and one spent cartridge.

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed ongoing investigations, pledging to bring the culprit to justice once their inquiries conclude. The tragedy has sparked widespread condemnation from locals and community leaders alike, who are calling for a ban on firearm use during celebrations to prevent further sorrow.

In what should have been a moment of shared happiness, a careless shot transformed a party into a scene of loss, reminding everyone that reckless actions have real consequences.
