A magistrate court in Kano, led by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan at Court No. 21, has handed down a one-year prison sentence to popular TikTok creator Abubakar Usman Kilina.

The court also offered Kilina the option to pay a fine of ₦100,000 along with ₦30,000 in compensation to the Kano State Film Censorship Board for what was described as “wasting the agency’s time.”

Kilina was found guilty of encouraging indecent behavior and featuring cross-dressers in one of his TikTok videos, as well as using offensive language, according to reports from Freedom Radio.

The case was brought against him by the Kano State Film Censorship Board, which took issue with the content of his video.

Magistrate Hadiza cautioned Kilina to refrain from actions that breach public decency, warning that any repeat offense would result in the full sentence being enforced without the option of a fine.
