The Ikeja Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court handed down a life sentence on Wednesday to 25-year-old teacher Chukwunonso Okafor for s3xually abusing a three-year-old girl at his workplace.

Justice Abiola Soladoye found Okafor guilty on three counts, ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond any reasonable doubt.

On the first count, Okafor received a life sentence for s3xual assault, specifically for inserting his p3nis into the victim’s vagina, an offense under Section 261 of the Criminal Law, Chapter 17, Volume 3, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The second count of defilement also carried a life sentence under Section 137 of the same law, while the third count resulted in a seven-year term under Section 135. All sentences will run concurrently.

The victim, present in court, testified that the teacher had been sucking her breast and penetrating her vagina.

Justice Soladoye condemned the acts, stating, “You descended so low by having oral s3x with your victim. Your action is barbaric.”

The judge noted that the victim’s testimony was consistent with that of the first prosecution witness.

The offenses reportedly took place between July and December 2022 at Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos State, where Okafor was employed.

Justice Soladoye declared, “The defendant is hereby found guilty of the three count charges of s3xual assault of a child and is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.”

This verdict sends a strong message against abuse and underscores the justice system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children.
