Simi Requests Fans to Refrain from Calling Her Daughter ‘Duduke’
Nigerian singer Simi has gently asked her fans to stop calling her daughter ‘Duduke.’ In a recent chat with media personality VJ Adams, she clarified that ‘Duduke’ is not her child’s name and actually doesn’t carry any meaning.
“Some people call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t mean anything,” she explained. “Even if it meant something nice like ‘blessing,’ Duduke doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a beat—like my heartbeat, like a drum.”
While Simi understands that the nickname comes from a place of affection, she admitted it still feels a bit uncomfortable as a mother. “I try not to react too much, but please stop calling my child Duduke,” she urged.
Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter in 2020.
