Parent and Four Others Nabbed for Allegedly Attacking Ondo Vice Principal Over Exam Cheating Prevention
The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended five individuals linked to the alleged assault of Mr. Alexander Rotifa, Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College Aule, Akure. The suspects include Mrs. Dorcas Asije, mother of a student caught cheating during the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) using an Android phone.
Mr. Rotifa reportedly confiscated the mobile device of an SS3 student caught attempting to cheat during the ongoing exams. This sparked a confrontation at the school, after which the student reportedly informed his parent. Allegedly, the parent then hired some thugs to attack the Vice Principal.
According to sources, when the hired attackers arrived at the school, police were called to intervene. However, the thugs overpowered the officers, dragged Mr. Rotifa from their vehicle, and subjected him to a brutal beating.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Alayande, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday, June 2. The state Ministry of Education has also launched an investigation into the matter.
“Following the assault on the Vice Principal, the Ondo State Police Command arrested Mrs. Dorcas Asije and four others,” Alayande said. Acting on orders from Commissioner of Police CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) ensured their swift detention. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will proceed to court after investigations conclude.
