NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians on Circulating Fake Cowbell ‘Our Milk’ Sachets
A glass of milk is supposed to be comforting, not dangerous. But NAFDAC has warned Nigerians that some sachets of Cowbell “Our Milk” in circulation might be anything but safe. The counterfeit versions look genuine but come with alarming risks.
In a recent public alert, NAFDAC explained that the legitimate producer, Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, officially stopped making Cowbell “Our Milk” back in September 2023. The product was replaced with Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.” That means any “Our Milk” sachets currently being sold are fake, despite their convincing packaging.
According to the agency, these counterfeit sachets illegally carry the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and the familiar packaging style, tricking unsuspecting consumers. Unfortunately, what’s inside those sachets is not approved or regulated, leaving buyers at serious health risk.
The dangers linked to consuming the fake milk are no small matter. NAFDAC highlighted that counterfeit products may contain toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, or watered-down ingredients. Vulnerable groups like babies, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk, facing possible foodborne diseases, allergic reactions, organ damage, or worse.
Details on the fake product show it being marketed as Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets, with production date of April 2025 and expiry date of December 2028. While it may look authentic, it is not manufactured by Promasidor and therefore unsafe.
NAFDAC has urged both health professionals and everyday consumers to stay alert. Suspicious sales of milk products—or any other food that seems questionable—should be reported immediately to the nearest NAFDAC office or through official communication channels.
The agency’s message is clear: when it comes to food safety, caution can be the difference between health and harm. So if you see “Our Milk” sachets still being sold, remember—it’s not the wholesome milk it appears to be.
