Ammunition seizure

Security forces recently stopped a truck carrying an astonishing haul of over 164,000 live cartridges in Anambra State, leading to the arrest of a man believed to be a key player in arms trafficking. This successful interception was the result of a coordinated effort involving Sector 5 troops from Operation Udo Ka, the 63 Brigade, and the Department of State Services (DSS), acting on what officials called solid intelligence.

The man in custody, identified as Emeka Omenife, was nabbed on May 29 along the busy Asaba-Onitsha Expressway. Following his arrest, he was handed over to the DSS for further questioning. Omenife allegedly admitted to being part of a syndicate responsible for smuggling ammunition from Ghana into Nigeria.

Shortly after, on May 30, authorities also detained his partner in crime, Uchenna Obiora, at the Onitsha-Awka tollgate, where he was reportedly waiting to receive the shipment. Investigations are still underway as security experts work to uncover and capture other members of this illicit network.
