Massachusetts Man Hits $1 Million Twice in One Night Thanks to a Lottery Mix-Up

Talk about a lucky night! Paul Corcoran from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, found himself twice as rich after unintentionally buying two identical Powerball tickets for the same drawing. What started as a simple mistake turned into a $2 million windfall.

Originally, Paul had purchased a $2 multi-draw Powerball ticket covering seven draws but mistakenly assumed the July 9 drawing had already taken place. Minutes later, he picked up another $2 ticket at a different store, which also included the July 9 draw.

Amazingly, both tickets matched five white balls — 5, 9, 25, 28, and 69 — earning him $1 million per ticket. The only thing separating him from the massive $217 million jackpot was missing the red Powerball number 5.

Paul revealed he’s been loyal to the same set of random numbers for years and recently claimed his combined $2 million winnings at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters.

The winning tickets were snagged at Market Basket in Fitchburg and Country Farms in Leominster, each store rewarded with a $10,000 bonus for selling their first $1 million Powerball winners.

This double jackpot win not only made it a night to remember for Paul but also marked a historic moment for both local stores.
