Man Alleges Police Kidnapped Him Over Cult Suspicion While Heading Home from Church
Sometimes a peaceful trip home can take a terrifying turn. A Nigerian man recently shared a harrowing experience of being handcuffed and abducted by police officers who accused him of being involved in cult activities—all while he was simply returning from church.
In a series of TikTok posts, the man recounted how, around 8 p.m., he was stopped by officers at TV Road, opposite Baptist High School. They demanded he switch off his car headlights and open his boot, which he complied with. But things quickly escalated when an officer hiding in a parked vehicle began shouting that he was a cultist.
“I never knew some policemen were hiding in a very dark corner with their Sienna. They just stopped me and shouted at me to switch off my car light and open my boot. I did,” he explained.
Despite showing his car documents, the officers insisted on searching his phone to “identify” him. When he refused, they forcibly handcuffed him and shoved him into their vehicle, holding him for nearly an hour without allowing any phone calls.
He added that the police claimed to have “intelligence” suggesting he was on a secret mission in Benin, though he vehemently denied the accusation. The ordeal left him traumatized, questioning whether to call the officers police or kidnappers.
The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage and sympathy from viewers who shared similar experiences and warned others to avoid that particular road at night. Many expressed concern over alleged abuses of power and the dangers faced by ordinary citizens during routine police stops.
