Lagos Court Hands Down 76-Year Sentence for Man Convicted of Fraud, Money Laundering, and Child Exploitation

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State, has sentenced Olukeye Adedayo Olalekan to 76 years behind bars for crimes including fraud, s3xtortion, money laundering, and child exploitation.

Justice Alexander Owoeye delivered the verdict on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after finding Olalekan guilty of all charges.

Olalekan was initially charged in 2024 with an 18-count indictment that included transmitting child exploitation material, fraudulent impersonation, and s3xtortion involving N721,500 (Seven Hundred and Twenty-One Thousand, Five Hundred Naira), brought by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The first charge detailed that on or about February 13, 2023, in Lagos, Olalekan used Instagram to create a group named “Expose Janjua Robin Nudes,” through which he distributed child exploitation content, violating the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty, leading to a full trial that began on June 5, 2024.

During proceedings, prosecution lawyer Bilikisu Buhari called two key witnesses: Wahid Hamidi, a Police Sergeant from the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and Saidu Yakubu, an EFCC operative.

The case attracted international attention following the investigation by the British Columbia Serious Crime Unit into the death of 14-year-old Robin Janjus, found deceased in his home.

Forensic analysis of the victim’s mobile phone linked Canadian authorities to social media accounts managed by Olalekan.

Further inquiries, including undercover operations, revealed that Olalekan impersonated a female from North Carolina on platforms like Snapchat and Instagram to lure victims.

He was found guilty of soliciting and obtaining property through deception, threatening to release nude images of minors, and conducting multiple fraudulent transactions involving cryptocurrency and gift cards.

After reviewing the evidence, the court convicted Olalekan on all 18 counts, sentencing him to a cumulative 76 years in prison, with sentences to run concurrently.

The conviction stems from his deliberate use of Instagram to create a group distributing child exploitation material, supported by testimonies from both local and international witnesses.
