Kate Henshaw Voices Concerns Over Nigerian Laws Favoring Men
Renowned Nollywood star Kate Henshaw recently spoke out about the way Nigerian laws seem to be stacked against women. In a candid chat on Arise TV, she expressed her belief that Nigerian men often view women as inferior.
She took particular aim at the “violence against persons prohibition laws,” suggesting these regulations actually work to the disadvantage of women. Henshaw pointed out that while it’s true that man was created first according to religious texts, woman was fashioned not to be beneath man’s feet but rather from his side—meant to stand alongside him, to flourish and grow together.
Yet, she lamented, many Nigerian men still treat women as less than fully human. This mindset, she argued, is reflected in the laws themselves. For example, the current legislation permits a man to discipline his wife physically, a practice she questions sharply.
Her comments highlight ongoing concerns about gender inequality embedded within legal frameworks and cultural attitudes in Nigeria.
