Illbliss Calls Out Nigerian Artists for Staying Silent on Bad Governance and Insecurity
Renowned rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has taken a swipe at some Nigerian artists for their noticeable silence amid the country’s growing challenges of poor governance and rising insecurity.
He pointed out that certain celebrities choose not to speak out against these issues for selfish reasons.
However, Illbliss praised artists like Falz, who have actively protested against bad governance and used their music as a platform to fight corruption.
During a recent appearance on The Real Shareholders podcast, Illbliss remarked, “There are commendable figures who have stepped up, joined protests, and even faced arrest. Falz The Bhad Guy is a prime example. His project ‘Moral Instructions’ might be his least commercially successful album because it was deeply introspective and reflected society’s realities.”
He added, “On the flip side, a large portion of the music industry has turned a blind eye to Nigeria’s problems, for reasons only they understand. Maybe they believe speaking out won’t change anything, or they’re playing it safe because those in government are their patrons who invite them to exclusive events.”
Illbliss’s candid words highlight the divide within the Nigerian music community when it comes to addressing national issues.
