Father Sentenced to 35 Years for Exploiting His Own Children in Child P0rn0graphy Scheme

A 27-year-old man from the Cape Winelands has been handed a 35-year prison sentence for producing and distributing child p0rn0graphy involving his own children. To protect the victims, the man’s identity remains confidential.

The convicted father was found guilty of a litany of serious offenses including r@pe, child traff!cking, and possession and distribution of child p0rn0graphy. He exploited his minor daughters, aged six and four, along with his one-year-old son, creating illicit content which he sold online for profit.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the man committed these crimes while unemployed and caring for the children at home. He married the children’s mother in 2018. Motivated by financial gain, he engaged with an online group through a social media platform that allowed real-time image sharing. He admitted to creating and selling sexually exploitative material involving his own children, earning between $5 and $10 per transaction.

The operation was uncovered thanks to an undercover investigation by a U.S. FBI task force focused on online child exploitation. Intelligence from the Washington field office was shared with South African authorities, leading to his arrest on May 30, 2023. His cellphone, containing incriminating evidence, was seized.

The man was convicted on multiple counts: two charges of trafficking for online exploitation, four counts of r@pe, three counts of profiting from child p0rn0graphy, 629 counts of possession of such material, three counts of unlawful distribution, and three counts of child abuse.

Senior state advocate Evadne Kortje condemned the man’s actions as a severe betrayal of parental responsibility, highlighting how he abused the trust placed in him and contributed to the sexualization of innocent children who should have been protected at all costs.

Regional court magistrate Gangadu, while delivering the sentence, warned about the increasing misuse of modern technology to exploit children and underscored the gravity of the offenses.

The 35-year sentence requires the man to serve at least two-thirds before becoming eligible for parole. Additionally, he has been registered as a sexual offender nationally and barred from working with children or owning firearms.
