Life in a quiet farming community took a heartbreaking turn when tragedy struck one of its own. A widow, known for her hard work and resilience, was found lifeless in her farmland—an incident that has left her family and neighbours in shock.
The victim, identified as Salomi Benjamin, had gone to her farm in Kafin Tafawa, a settlement near Bauchi city, on the morning of Saturday, September 13, 2025. According to her son Simeon, she left home around 8 a.m. with no hint that anything was amiss. By evening, worry set in when she did not return, leading to a frantic search by her family.
The search ended in grief when her body was discovered about two kilometers away from her home, lying in the farmland where she had gone to work. The discovery has left her loved ones reeling, unable to comprehend the cruelty behind the act.
A neighbour, Alex Markus, described the incident as senseless, lamenting the pain it has caused the community. He acknowledged the swift intervention of the Yelwa Divisional Police Officer but stressed that more must be done to track down those responsible for the heinous crime.
At the time of this report, the Bauchi State Police Command had yet to release an official statement regarding the killing. Meanwhile, residents of Kafin Tafawa remain shaken, calling for stronger security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
For Salomi’s family, however, the pain of her sudden loss is one wound that will not easily heal. What was supposed to be a routine day of farming has now turned into an endless nightmare.
