Mother Mourns Newborn Lost to Birth Complications Traced to Strict Church Beliefs
Sometimes, faith can be both a comfort and a curse. A grieving mother recently shared a heartbreaking story of losing her newborn due to complications in childbirth—complications she believes were worsened by her church’s rigid stance against medical intervention.
Raised in a church that forbids any form of medication, hospital visits, or medical care, she had never questioned this doctrine—after all, it was all she knew. During her pregnancy, she adhered strictly to these teachings, refusing antenatal checkups, avoiding vitamins, and completely steering clear of hospitals.
But as her third trimester progressed, her health began declining sharply. Fearing for her and her baby’s wellbeing, she secretly consulted a doctor. The diagnosis was dire: pre-eclampsia, a potentially fatal condition requiring immediate medical attention. When she told her husband, he, alongside his family, reacted with anger and insisted she rely solely on prayer and faith rather than medicine.
Her condition deteriorated until one night she collapsed, forcing an emergency visit to the hospital. Doctors recommended an urgent C-section due to dangerously high blood pressure. Although her husband initially resisted, blaming her for a supposed lack of faith, he eventually consented to the procedure.

In her own words, she revealed the deep-rooted beliefs that shaped her life: “I lost my baby because of the church’s doctrine. The church I was born into opposes all medication. We believe sickness isn’t possible for us because our bodies belong to God alone. No earthly medicine can change that. If illness comes, we command it to leave. This has been my way of life because it’s what my parents taught me since birth.”
