Since Getting a Car, Nigerian Woman Finds It Tough to Date Men Without One
Nigerian businesswoman Anthonia Umerah recently shared her struggle with dating men who don’t own cars ever since she purchased one herself.
In a candid Facebook post on June 18, Anthonia revealed that she often imagines the potential awkwardness and challenges that could arise in such relationships, especially if the man happens to be insecure.
“Since I bought a car, I’ve found it really hard to date a man without one. I keep wondering how it would work out. Would I park my car at home while we take taxis on dates? Or would I be the one driving him around, maybe dropping him off after the date before heading home myself?” she wrote.
She added, “Would I just hand over my car keys to a man? It’s not that there’s anything wrong with a man not having a car, but it’s become weird for me. I recently met a guy who seemed great from our chat, but the fact that he didn’t own a car felt like it affected my vibe.”
Anthonia admitted this wasn’t an issue before she owned a car, and she recognizes that some women naturally prefer dating men who have cars, which is perfectly valid. However, for her, the change started after buying her own vehicle.
She explained, “I feel like driving a man around is a masculine thing, and I want to embrace my femininity.”
Another concern she raised is the insecurity many Nigerian men face. “This situation could bruise the ego of an insecure man, who might blame the car for every little misunderstanding,” she noted.
