Iyanya Opens Up About Missing Nigerian Idols Season 1 Finals
Afrobeats sensation Iyanya recently shared an interesting chapter from his early career, revealing that he was actually selected during the auditions for the inaugural season of Nigerian Idols held in Calabar, Cross River State.
He recalled that he and fellow singer Omawunmi, who eventually became the first runner-up in the 2007 maiden edition, were the only two contestants chosen from that audition round. However, Iyanya explained that he was unable to compete in the finals because they clashed with his final year university exams.
Not one to be held back, Iyanya bounced back a year later by winning the very first edition of Project Fame West Africa, marking a significant milestone in his music journey.
He shared these insights during a recent interview with Hip TV, where he expressed excitement about now serving as a co-judge alongside Omawunmi on the current season of Nigerian Idols.
“Omawunmi and I were the only ones picked at the Calabar Nigerian Idol auditions. I couldn’t make it because of my final year exams. A year later, I won Project Fame. Now, here we are, both judges on Nigerian Idol,” Iyanya reflected.
