Nigerian artist Bella Shmurda has openly declared that he no longer identifies with the secular music industry. The singer shared that his creative direction has shifted away from chasing trends and fleeting hits.

During a recent chat on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan, Bella Shmurda revealed that his focus has moved toward making conscious music. He explained, “At this point, I feel like I’m not really part of the [secular music] industry anymore. I don’t create music just to follow trends or jump on popular waves. That space doesn’t feel like mine now.”

He went on to say that his goal is to produce music that uplifts listeners, encourages self-awareness, and helps people navigate life’s challenges. “I want my songs to inspire people to reflect on who they are and to support them through their journeys. I don’t think many of my peers are aiming for that,” he added.

While Bella Shmurda admits he might occasionally drop a trendy track, he sees those moments as brief detours before returning to his true purpose. “I know where I belong now. Even if I make a trendy song here and there, I quickly get back to what really matters to me. That’s the balance I’m striving for,” he concluded.
